Food Security and Early Warning Systems for Rwanda (FSIEWS) : CGIS-NUR participated in a half day workshop that described the future system that will be implemented through an EC funding. CGIS-NUR presented the capabilities of the use of Remote Sensing to monitor and forecast crop yield (NOVOTEL HOTEL, Kigali). Contact : Florent Lasry

Gift of Landsat images from RCMRD : Wilber OTTICHILO, Director General of the Regional Centre for Mapping of Ressources for Development located in Nairobi, Kenya (RCMRD www.rcmrd.org), partner of the CGIS-NUR through the NUFFIC project, proposed a gift of LANDSAT images covering Rwanda and archived by its institution. The CGIS-NUR gratefully thanks him for this very usefull gift that will serve for research and educational purposes at the Centre. Contact : Florent Lasry

Visit from ESRI Germany : Michael SITTARD, managing director of Esri Geoinformatik GmbH (esri-germany.de) and a team of collaborators visited the CGIS-NUR to discuss about a future partnership between the CGIS-NUR, ESRI, and the "Igira impwhue" project in Nyanza.

Training in MS PROJECT : the RDGG team (RDGG coordination, RITC, RDG and CGIS/RS) received an introductory training in project management using the software MS project. The training, conducted by F. Lasry, took place at the Kigali Institute for Science and Technology.

Book donation by the NSRC (Network Startup Resource Center) : a first donation of books related to ICT and geoinformation was sent to CGIS by the NSRC. They will be stored in the documentation unit and will serve to the students, researchers, professors, etc.

Capacity building at CGIS : two staff from CGIS/RS, Jean-Paul Dushimumuremyi and Deo Rutamu left temporarily for training, respectively for a PHD in GIS and Environment in Sweden, and for a master in Geoinformatics in Netherlands.
