RECEPTION AND USE OF METEOSAT SECOND GENERATION

The objective of this research program is to explore how the near-real time received MSG data can be used in hydrological, environmental and meteorological applications in Rwanda and in the sub-region.

AARSE-ESA Award for Best Paper Presentation

From 30 october to 02 november 2006, the 6th African Association of Remote Sensing of the Environment (AARSE) was held in Cairo, hosted by the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences (NARSS).

The paper intitulated Installation, Setup And Use of a Low Cost C-Band Meteosat-8 Ground Receiving Station in Rwanda, by Ben MAATHUIS, Bas RETSIOS, Florent LASRY and Michelle SCHILLING won the AARSE-ESA award fot the Best Paper Presentation of the Conference (ESA is the European Space Agency).

After the Special Achievement in GIS received in August 2006 in San Diego, this is the second price for CGIS-NUR this year at the international level.

CGIS-NUR would like to specially thank Dr Ben Maathuis and Bas Retsios from ITC who supported this initiative at NUR and who were key to this achievements.

TECHNICAL WORKSHOP CGIS-NUR METEOSAT Receiving Station

In the framework of the project of installation, setting up and use of a ground receiving station of satellite images from METEOSAT Second Generation at the Centre for GIS and Remote Sensing - NUR, undertaken in partnership with the Faculties of Science, Applied Science, Agronomy and Economics and Management - NUR, and the International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), hereby I would like to invite you to for a launching workshop of the recently installed station. This workshop will be held in the premises of CGIS-NUR in Butare, and will be focused on the future applications and collaborations that the use of these satellite images will allow.
