GIS day 2009: a successful event at CGIS-NUR Kigali office

This Wednesday 18, 2009 at CGIS Kigali office there have been a celebration of GIS day

Professionals from various institutions working with GIS technologies were invited There were presentations from Abel Musana from RDB Tourism and conservation who presented about the use of GIS for conservation of mountain gorillas Alphonse Mutabazi from Track plus presented their use of GIS in Malaria surveillance. One of the secondary school student showcased what he have learnt from the previous GIS trainings in schools. After Claudio Pajarola of the CGIS did a presentation on the use of IGS station as a DGPS base station and Bernard also from CGIS did a demo on the catalog service metadata search facility developed by the CGIS-NUR.

An interesting panel discussion followed chaired by Dr Felicia Akinyemi , Deputy director of CGIS -NUR with members of the panel Dr Rugege ,Adviser in Rema and Didier Sagashya ,Vice director of National land centre .with a theme “Geo Data sharing in Rwanda ” The discussion were fruitful as it exposed the current situation of the matter and a commitment came from all stakeholders to do a follow up, in this regard a workshop meeting about data sharing policy will be organized by RDB IT very soon.

At the end of the day, there have been a map gallery and DGPS visit. Note that a map competition was organized and the winners is Abel Musana from RDB tourism and conservation, Jean Bosco Ndabarinze of MEMS Project and Kanyangira John from OGMR.
